University of Toronto, Pulp & Paper Centre Pulp & Paper Centre's Logo

INDUSTRIAL PARTNERS

The Centre looks to the pulp and paper industry for advice and counsel about the University’s programs of research and teaching. The industry will hire many of the scientists and engineers produced by the University so such discussions can benefit both sides and the students as well. In addition, industry can share its challenges and opportunities and thereby encourage research on particular subjects.

Core Industry Members

Core industry members of the Centre provide long-term, on-going, support and advise, and each contribute annually; $30,000 per year for the current year. The core members in 2006-2007 are:

Bowater Canadian Forest Products Inc.

ERCO Worldwide

Tembec Industries Inc.

Other Industry Partners

In addition to the core members, there are many other industry partners who participate in research consortia as listed below. We welcome industry interest.

One of the Centre’s objectives is to encourage industry collaboration on postgraduate research. Our postgraduate students are very enthusiastic about industry involvement. Collaborative research projects might involve the company describing a problem, providing data or samples or access to an operation or assisting with field trials or test work. A good project is well defined, has an able student, a faculty supervisor with applicable expertise and a willing partner from the industry side. Research results are presented to the participating companies prior to publication.

Industry is also involved in the Centre through the Pulp and Paper Research Institute of Canada. A strong spirit of cooperation exists between the Centre and the Institute, between scientists and engineers in both organizations, PAPRICAN has a member on the Board of Advisors (currently Dr. Ron Crotogino).
